Winning the toss and electing to bat, Kempsey openers made a good start against north Cotswold club Blockley. In hot conditions on a hard wicket David Robinson (51) including nine fours, and Mark Williams (69) two sixes and nine fours, put on 128 for the first wicket. Two quick wickets brought Steve Robins to the crease for a patient 52 no. Including two sixes and three fours, together with Andy Newcombe (13) and Derek Obrey (4 no.) to take the total to 214 for 4 wickets in the allotted 40 over's.
In reply, Blockley looked set to overhaul the Kempsey total with a fine knock from Don Knight (60) including two sixes and nine fours and Roger Tonge (20), four fours, but then a steady fall of wickets saw them at 115 for 6 after 27 over's put Kempsey back on top. Then a fine innings by Paul Knight (40 no.) seven fours, Steve Cross (25) including five fours, and Ray Cook (10 no.) turned the tables yet again but fine bowling at the end by Kempsey left Blockley on 197 for 8 wickets in their 40 over's. Kempsey winning by 17 runs. Steve Robins (3-16 in 8 over's), Mark Williams (3-29), Andy Newcombe (1-21) and Tom Waters (1-47) the best of Kempsey Bowlers.
