Fossils won the toss and elected to field in this 40 over friendly. Kempsey made slow progress being 39 for 2 wkts after 10 overs. David Robinson (35) including five fours, Steve Robins (21) together with Will Perry (15) and Eric Hall (21 no) being the only batsmen to reach double figures, taking the score to 132 for 9 wickets in their 40 overs. T. Mills (3 for 8) the pick of the Fossils bowlers with Peter Tudge (1 - 9), Gerald Wadley (1 - 21), John Reynolds (1 - 33), and E Bradshaw (1 - 7) being the other wicket takers.
Fossils in reply also struggled in overcast conditions. John Shepherd (13), Kevin Gilbert (16) and Brian Scott (30) including six fours, making most of the runs. Fossils ending at 97 - 7 off their 40 overs after Kempsey put in a splendid last 20 overs by only allowing 24 runs. Splendid bowling by Will Perry (3-19), Eric Hall (2-18), Will Smith (1-13) and Andy Newcombe (1-14) the wicket takers ably assisted by Tom Waters with 4 maidens in 8 overs for 9 runs and Steve Robins with 5 maidens in his 8 overs for 16 runs. All 7 members dismissed of the Fossils were caught off the bat with outstanding catching.
