Kempsey vs Flyford Flavel at Kempsey on Sunday 7th May 2006 (40 over friendly)
Kempsey lost the toss and were put into bat by Flyford Flavel in this 40 over friendly match and immediately the openers of Lance Ohren and David Robinson were finding it hard to get runs with only 8 scored from the first 6 overs. But then things changed and both openers started scoring freely until a change of bowling in the 12th over when Paul Holpin came on and first ball David Robinson 17 (4 x 4's) edged a ball that was caught by Steve Holpin in the gully. This brought Jon Dean 20 (2 x 4's) to the wicket who took the score to 100 in the 21st over before being caught. A further 17 overs Mark Williams and Lance put on 120 until Mark was caught behind for 48 (3 x 4's) and 1 x 6).
At the end of the innings Lance Ohren had only given one very late chance of being out but "carried his bat" scoring 138 not out with 20 x 4's and 1 x6. Would the good score of 252 for 3 be enough for Kempsey to Win? The best of the Flyford bowlers were C. Koorts (8-0-33-0), P. Young (8-1-46-1), P. Holpin (8-0-34-1) and I Edwards (8-0-51-1)
M. Vernon and Tom Green said at tea "we have to get a move on" and that is what they did. The first wicket for Flyford Flavel put on 94 in 14 overs before M. Vernon was out for 27 (3 x 4's). Steve Beavon only scored 22 (4 x 4's) allowing Tom Green to pass his century. He then had two milestones in his sites - his previous highest score of 125 and the club record of 152. Paul Young 18 not out (2 x 4's) partnered Tom Green to pass both of these with fours but was finally out caught with a diving catch by Chris Walton leaving Flyford just 3 runs left to get but Tom Green scoring 167 (29 x 4's and 1 x 6). A fine innings all round. Flyford winning by 7 wickets. The best of the Kempsey bowlers were S. Ahmed (5-1-18-0), S. Lewis (5-1-26-1), B. Salisbury (8-0-58-1) and Lance Ohren (5-0-43-1).
