Kempsey won the toss and elected to bat in this 40 over friendly on a damp wet wicket with this touring side from Plymouth. Chris Genever and David Robinson opened and produce a stand of 49 when David was caught after scoring 39 of these. Wickets fell regularly throughout the innings with Lance Ohren scoring 26 who was caught one handed by John Shaw, and Derek Obrey (Kempsey’s pensioner) with 18 not out and Chris Genever run out on 92 with the innings finishing on 208 for 9 after the full 40 overs.
Best bowling for Philanthropists was John Shaw 3 for 34 off 10 overs and Tony Spybey (Philanthropists Pensioner and President) 2 for 17 off 3 overs.
Philanthropists struggled throughout the innings with only Paul Lockett (24) and John Shaw (19) making double figures and finishing on 116 all out after 39 overs.
Bowling for Kempsey included Brian Salisbury 5 for 27 off 9 overs, Barney Acktar 2 for 21 off 6 overs, John Dean 2 for 27 off 9 overs (including a backwards diving one handed catch by Barney Acktar at Gulley) and Jack Murphy 1 for 9 off 5 overs.
Kempsey winning by 92 runs. John Shaw and Chris Genever were awarded joint man of the match. Superb teas were again provided by Sandra Obrey (the Kempsey Pensioners better half).
