KCC VS DROITWICH
2ND ROUND OF SATURDAY K.O CUP
PLAYED 14TH MAY 2011 AT PLOVERS RISE
Played at Plovers Rise on a fairly pleasant day, this was the eagerly awaited 2nd round of the Saturday K.O. Cup.
KCC won the toss and had no hesitation in sticking Droitwich into bat. It looked like a fairly hard good wicket, so a slight risk if the opposition got a good score however Kempsey decided a total of 150 would be attainable.
KCC opened with Shaleem and Uzman (back home after a brief spell at Dominies). Both bowled to a fairly good line and Uzman showing that he will be a great asset again this season. Shaleem struck first having the opening bat lunging forward to a fairly good delivery and Dave Price doing the rest with a fairly easy catch by his standards. Uzman bowled well but unlucky to take a wicket with his first spell. Shaleem was replaced by Henny, and Uzman by Craig. Both started badly but then Henny suddenly found that he could control the swing of the ball and starting beating the batsmen. At the other end, big Craig was getting frustrated but an excellent one handed catch by Uzman sparked him into life again.
Wickets started falling regularly – Henny bowling the dangerous Gurr, and Weston clean bowling Sealey and Osbourne.
Again Kempsey sensing that they could bowl out opposition for less than 150, Uzman returned to clean up the tail.
Wickets were shared between Henny, Craig and Uzman all taking 3 apiece. A ruthless display in the field with catches being held and only one dropped (whose are the knees Lance?), a hard chance at slip. Our hero from last week didn’t even bowl (you know who you are).
At tea KCC were favourites to win game chasing a total of 138. However, I think a relaxed attitude when batting started to take its effect. Tolley was first to fall pulling a ball straight to a fielder, then Craig caught again batting aggressively. Lance soon followed and the score stood at 70-4. Henny showed a level head with a sensible 34 before playing a loose shot. It was looking jittery with Brookes and Barney falling cheaply but then Uzman with 2 boundaries won the game. KCC 142 for 7.
A fine team performance and through to the quarter finals!!!
Next week is the first league game and what is worrying is that our batting hasn’t clicked yet, but I am very confident that this will be addressed next week.
Well done boys-well deserved!!!
