INTRODUCTION

The Club has a thriving Junior section where the emphasis is on fun first and cricket second. It is our aim to make the youngsters introduction to the game as enjoyable as possible and to hopefully to give them the basic skills and understanding to play a highly skilled and diverse team sport with sportsmanship, honour and integrity as representatives of Kempsey Cricket Club and of cricket in general.

The Junior section is made up of 7 to 16 year olds of varying degrees of ability - from complete novices to school team representatives, both boys and girls. All are welcome with out reservation including those that are less physically able.

Staff

Our Coaches are all England Cricket Board (E.C.B.) qualified and therefore holders of Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau certificates (E C.R.B.). Additionally all have current First Aid Certificates and have obviously undergone Good Practice and Child Protection courses. Some have voluntarily undergone further vocational coaching courses and include Equity in Coaching, Physical Education for the Disabled etc.

Our Assistant Coaching staff have all undergone the standard Criminal Records Bureau (C.R.B.) check.

Coaching Sessions

During the season we currently conduct one coaching session per week - usually on a Sunday morning from 10 am which generally lasts from 2 to 2½ hours. The number of sessions per week may increase should the number of participants merit it.

There is no requirement for cricket clothing for training sessions - as long as the juniors are dressed appropriately for sport with consideration being given to weather and comfort. For competitive cricket matches, team players are expected to provided their own clothing:
                                 Training shoes (white biased preferably)
                                 Trousers (White)
                                 Shirts (White or Club)
Sweaters (white with green or gold borders)
                                  Caps
                                 Abdominal guard (boxes) for boys

(The Club is able to arrange subsidized clothing with our suppliers - please contact one of the management team for details).

All other equipment - bats, helmets, leg guards, gloves,  etc are provided by the Club.

During the close season, the Club has arranged for indoor group training at Bishop Perowne College, Merriman’s Hill Road, Worcester, WR3 8LE. Due to the expense of hiring indoor facilities these sessions are limited to 2 hours and parents/guardians are asked to ensure their cricketer(s) are on time to gain maximum benefit.

Costs

We aim to keep costs of annual membership and weekly subscriptions (subs) to an absolute minimum (it is not the intention of Kempsey Cricket Club to profit from the Junior Section). However, there is a running cost element to the section that includes Insurance, equipment upkeep, administrative, awards, drinks (and teas for competitive matches) etc. Whilst the Club subsidies the Junior Section as much as possible the following costs to junior members are current:

Junior Annual Membership                                           £5-00
Weekly coaching session                                            £2-50 or £3-00

Proficiency Awards

The Junior section has an annual proficiency assessment day conducted at the end of each season. This enables the Coaching Staff to assess each child's skills level at disciplines tutored during the course of the season and to identify areas where further coaching is required.
